A wart is a small growth on the skin that develops when the skin is infected by a virus. Warts can develop anywhere on the foot, but typically they appear on the bottom (plantar side) of the foot. Plantar warts most commonly occur in children, adolescents, and the elderly.
Plantar warts are typically treated in the office by gently trimming the lesion without creating pain and application of a chemical agent to burn the lesion. A home program is then begun and 1-2 more offices treatments will generally resolve the warts. If there are too many or they are not responding to topical therapy, the lesions are then excised in the office or out patient surgical setting. Depending on the severity, a LASER may be utilized. One way is no more effective then the other, the decision on which option depends on the severity of the warts
We can discuss all possible treatment options ranging from topical therapies, office surgical excision, to LASER excision in an outpatient surgical setting. (Dr. Campitelli even treats hands!)
